Over on JK Cheney’s blog, the discussion continues apace. Now she tackles The One, The Predestined Mate, The Soul Mate.

Even in this day and age, usually the One is the female character’s first one, while the male character has more experience. When writing a historical romance, that certainly makes sense. But a contemporary? Not so much (unless it’s a Christian category romance, a large and growing genre).

So what is it about the One that still makes us a sucker for it? JK Cheney casts a skeptical eye over the whole soul mate schtick. Is there really such a thing as a Glittery Hooha?
