A friend of mine has access to about 15-20 Georgette Heyer novels and is willing to send them to me. Since he is overseas, this is a huge deal. I’m tempted to say all of them! But that might be expensive. He has said that one of them is Cotillion, which is my favorite Heyer, and I’m definitely getting that one.
So here is my question, Heyer fans: Which Heyers are your favorites? Or more to the point, which of the less well-known Heyers are your favorites? After all, we all know The Grand Sophy, and for good reason. I’m including her mysteries, contemporary books, and non-Regencies.

Mine is Cotillion, too. Other than that, Friday’s Child, Devil’s Club, Frederica and False Colours. Oh, and A Civil Contract.

A Civil Contract is so wonderful. I think it’s because I love bittersweet love stories. False Colours is just good fun — the first time the twin switcheroo is fresh.

I’ve been meaning to read Cotillion. I have it on my kindle (along with several other unread books). Just haven’t gotten to it yet.

I remember liking Cotillion so much. I hope it holds up to my memories.

Grand Sophy is a big favorite, but I also love Civil Contract, Black Sheep, These Old Shades and Venetia. Great supporting characters in all of them. Frederica is also good, but I don’t re-read it as often. I don’t own BS or TOS — I read my mother’s copies up at the summer cottage. Even though I know that the mores of her Regencies are more Victorian, I still enjoy them.
I liked Envious Casca for her mysteries, but didn’t care for any of the others that I read. They simply felt sordid to me, and I don’t like being in the minds of sordid people. At least EC was a bit clever.

Venetia! That one is new to me. I will have to see if it’s on the list.

Oh, love so many of them! These Old Shades was the first I read as a kid, so will always be a favorite, and Devil’s Cub was great fun. Frederick, Grand Sophy, Cotillion — so hard to choose, eh?! I need to get you back the ones yu so kindly loaned me!! Tell me if you’re missing them very badly….

Frederica is a favorite Heyer, as is Bath Tangle 🙂

Bath Tangle! That sounds like one of her madcap ones. April Lady was like that, and I liked it despite the uncomfortably paternalistic marriage.
Elle, if you aren’t finished reading the ones I loaned you, don’t worry, but if you have finished just bring them to the next cryptopolis.
