Franklin the puppy

Franklin the puppy

My only defense for neglecting my blog is that I have been so busy writing GWIII that I’ve let a lot of things slide, not just blogging. You know, household stuff, family stuff (oh look!  kids!) … All I can say is that it’s a good thing my husband does the actual bill-paying or I would be getting some mighty uncomfortable phone calls from guys with gravelly voices who threaten to come to my house to make sure I pay up.

(Seriously, I cover the collections industry, and while they have cleaned up most of their act, there are some pretty unethical companies out there).

Anyway, it’s only partly an exaggeration.

What I’ve been doing:

Writing the aforementioned GWIII. It’s gotten a new lease on life and the writing is coming together with a lot less effort. Sometimes writing is like pulling teeth. This is like the other times, when it’s more like channeling. So, happy happy!

Horsebackriding. I have been working with a mare named Roxy, who is so much fun. I end up thinking every horse that I ride is the best! horse! ever! and she’s pretty cool. She’s a little small for me, at about 14.3 hands or so (I haven’t measured her exactly) but I like small horses.

A new puppy. How much fun can a new puppy be! Franklin affords endless amusement, but he also eats baseboards. Sigh.

Then there’s the usual stuff — work, home, groceries, teaching my daughter to drive a standard (ah, that’s where my head has been at recently), dieting (weight watchers, fairly successful), and I dunno, the stuff of life.

I’m sorry for neglecting the five of you that come by periodically.

How are you?

I’m doing well, thank you, and how are you? I look forward to seeing you at ArmadilloCon! Glad to hear GWIII is going so well.

Hi Audrey, I saw you will be there! I’m looking forward to seeing you and catching up.

GWIII is fun right now. Like I said, I’m channeling the story again. It’s less a sequel to the first two books than it starts a whole new arc, and that’s been fun and exciting.

And the puppy is so freaking cute.

As one of the five you mentioned, I suppose I should speak up. I’m in that strange place, the doldrums between putting away an old project and opening up another. The world looks different without a work in progress. For a time, one can be more social. However, when I’m on my own, there’s a hesitant feeling in my body, as if my soul is holding its breath.

Not a good answer, I know, but you asked.

Wow. I like the way you put that. You’re in suspension for the moment, and really aware of it.

There’s something about that in-between space. It’s unsettling.

I know I get very apprehensive when I begin a new project.

I’m glad to hear you sounding so excited about GWIII.

I’m not sure where the summer has gone. It has been one activity after another with almost no breaks. (Well, no breaks except for Ceci’s wrist. She is now on her third cast since the X-rays at four and six weeks still showed a crack. We’re using this to try to get her to drink more of her morning millk instead of leaving half of it in the galss.)

I’ve been busy trying to finish up the first draft of a story that’s a bit longer than anything I have completed in quite a while. Only three more scenes to go.

See you in a few weeks at Armadillocon.

Hi Bethe!
Poor Ceci — hope she gets that thing off soon. Yes, milk! And maybe if she likes yogurt better, that might be easier for her to finish.

Go you on the long story! Isn’t it exciting, to be doing good creative work?

See you in a few weeks.

Ahh yogurt – one of those foods that Ceci insists she LOVES while we are at the grocery store, but that she doesn’t eat once we get it home. She manages about a third of one container (I’m talking the child sized Dora the Exploer yogurt here) and the rest gets thrown in the garbage several weeks after the expiration date.
She will eat chesse, especially Swiss. And ice cream is, or course, always welcome.

Smoothies? But I know how kids can be picky. I swear my son lived on air when he was that age.
